    Context

Fiji decriminalised same-sex relations in 2010 and the 2013 constitution prohibits discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation. Marriage is legally defined as between a man and a woman. Traditional community values are influential outside Suva.

Data transcribed from ILGA World Sexual Orientation Laws Map and cross-checked with Wikipedia. Last reviewed: 2026-06-14.

Same-sex activity is legal; same-sex marriage is not recognised. Cultural acceptance is mixed and influenced by Christian / Hindu / Muslim religious communities. Suva has a small visible LGBTQ+ community. Visibility choices warrant care, particularly in village placements.
