    Fact-Checking Policy

We aim for content that is accurate, useful and honest about its limits. This page explains how we check claims, where we draw the line, and what readers should still verify themselves.

    Last updated:

    What we check

    • Visa and immigration claims: Checked against the destination country's official immigration site at the time of writing or review.
    • Safety and travel-advisory claims: Compared against multiple government advisories (US, UK, AU, CA) where relevant. We summarise; we do not replace the official source.
    • Healthcare, vaccination and medical claims: Cross-referenced with publicly available CDC, NHS, WHO and equivalent guidance. Always confirm with a qualified travel-health professional before travel.
    • Cost claims: Stated as ranges, not promises. We mark estimates clearly and note that prices change.
    • Ethics claims: Anchored to established child-protection, animal-welfare and responsible-tourism research (UNICEF, Lumos, ReThink Orphanages, World Animal Protection, the EU Volunteer & Aid Workers responsible-tourism literature).

Things we will not pretend to know in real time

    • Current exchange rates or live program prices.
    • The exact current safety situation in any country at the moment you read the page.
    • Whether a specific program has changed its safeguarding practices since our last review.

For each of these we link to the official source and recommend you verify directly before booking.

    How we handle uncertainty

We prefer cautious language — “typically,” “often,” “based on publicly available information at the time of writing” — over false precision. Where we publish numbers (cost ranges, durations), we explain the assumptions behind them. Where reasonable people disagree (for example on the ethics of certain program types), we say so and link to the primary research.

    Dates and review cycle

Each page displays a last updated date. Pages where currency matters (safety, visa, advisory) are prioritised for review. If you find a stale or wrong fact, please use our corrections process.
