Solo travel of any kind to Myanmar is not currently recommended. The country has been under military rule since the 2021 coup; major home-government travel advisories list large portions of the country as Do-Not-Travel. Conditions are not stable enough for ordinary visitor planning, let alone volunteer work.
Same-sex activity is technically criminalised under colonial-era laws (Section 377). Beyond LGBTQ+ specifics, the broader human-rights situation under military rule makes any travel highly fraught. Verify with current FCDO / US State Department guidance — most home governments advise against all travel to large areas of Myanmar.

Our programs in Yangon partner with local organizations like the NAC HIV Centre and the Yangon Street Children project, focused on community education, HIV/AIDS outreach and women's livelihood support.
We do not offer residential childcare or orphanage placements. Global child protection guidance (UNICEF, Lumos, and most safeguarding bodies) advises against short-term foreign volunteering inside orphanages, even when well-intentioned. Read our child safeguarding policy before applying to any role involving children.

Myanmar has a tropical monsoon climate with three distinct seasons. The cool, dry season from November to February is the most comfortable time to volunteer. Avoid June–September when heavy monsoon rains can disrupt travel.

What to Pack
Light, modest clothing is recommended. Bring layers for air-conditioned indoor spaces, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a rain jacket if visiting during the monsoon season. Cover shoulders and knees when visiting temples.
